For Making the Cake and Icing:
Supplies & Tools
Here are the supplies and tools I use to make my cakes. The products listed are ones I recommend because I use them to make my cakes and I feel they make the process easier. I get many questions about the different products/tools I use (cake turntable, cake pans, etc.), so I wanted to put it all in one place to make it easy for everyone :) Some, or all, of the links may be affiliate links which means if you decide to purchase the product, I make a small amount. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. This, however, does not affect my recommendations.

Products marked with a blue star (★) are ones I use for all of my cakes [please note that some of these products, like the different cake pans, I use one or the other]. Products with a pink star (★) are ones that I love, but I don't use for every cake.
Food Scale: (★)

So convenient because I don't have to dirty measuring cups which cuts down on the amount of dishes! Click here.
Candy Thermometer: (★)

Really important when making Italian meringue buttercream, which is my preferred buttercream. Click here.

These cake pans are my favorite and thicker than you would likely find in a craft store, which I find helps reduce the browning of the cake and keeps the color of the cake vibrant! Click here.

If you're using thinner cake pans, I would recommend using these strips to help them bake more evenly and prevent some browning. I typically only use these with my Wilton pans, but they can help with baking on all pans. Click here.
Wilton Cake Pans: (★)

I've used these because they are easy to find and work pretty well. I would definitely recommend using these with the Bake Even strips to help the cakes bake more evenly. I use 6 inch cake pans most often followed by 8 inch cake pans. Click here.

This mixer does the hard work for me when I make my favorite icing -- Italian Meringue Buttercream. There are so many things you can do with this mixer and so many attachments you can get for it, it's a great kitchen tool! Click here.
For Assembling and Decorating the Cake:
Products marked with a blue star (★) are ones I use for all of my cakes [please note that some of these products, like the different cake pans, I use one or the other]. Products with a pink star (★) are ones that I love, but I don't use for every cake--it depends on the design.
Cake Turner: (★)

Let me just say, I initially wanted this cake turner because I loved the way it looked, but after comparing it to a cheaper plastic cake turner, I fell in love with it even more because it worked so much better! I know it's a bit pricey, but in my opinion it's worth it if you are going to be making cakes. Click here.
Food Coloring (Wilton Color Right System): (★)

This food coloring set has 8 gel colors -- which can be mixed to create practically any color you'd like! They are gel colors which means the color stays vibrant and they won't water down your icing like liquid food coloring! I use these for all of my cakes involving color. Click here.

Great for icing smaller cakes and for more detailed work. Click here.

I use both the 12-inch and 18-inch piping bags, but I use the 12-inch more often and find that they are big enough for most things I use piping bags for. Click here.
Cake Leveler: (★)

You can definitely use a knife to level cakes, I just find this makes it faster and easier. Click here.

My favorite because I find that they are resistant to grease marks from the buttercream. I use the 8 inch boards for most of my 6 inch cakes, and the 10 inch boards for most of my 8 inch cakes. Click here.
Parchment Paper: (★)

I use parchment paper to make stencils, block off parts of my cake when icing, lining the bottom of larger cake pans, etc. There are so many uses so I always have this on hand! Click here.
Brush Set: (★)

I use these for painting designs on to cakes, applying sprinkles, pressing down intricate parchment stencils, and more--they're a great tool to have on hand! Click here.

This was my first piping tip set! I still use them for most of my piping, in addition to a few additional ones here and there. It has a great variety and will have most of what you need. Click here.
Large 4-Piece Piping Tip Set: (★)

This set includes the beloved Wilton 1M tip. These tips are slightly larger than the standard piping tip and are perfect for swirly dollops, borders on the tops of cakes, cupcakes, and more! Click here.
Make the Whole Process More Enjoyable:

I love playing music or listening to books when making a cake--it just makes the whole process more fun than it already is :) This speaker is waterproof so you don't have to worry about getting anything on it and I love the way it sounds! Click here.

Listening to a book while decorating a cake just makes it more enjoyable :) It's like the ultimate multitasking. This link gives you a 30 day free trial, 1 free audiobook, and 2 free Audible Originals. Click here.

If you prefer standing while making a cake, this can really help your feet and back from getting sore. Click here.

I just wanted to share these because they were exactly what I was looking for when I wanted flour and sugar canisters. I think they're so cute and I love that the tops just pop off. Click here.
